- Ensure that employees undergoing apprenticeship training are only doing or assisting in work, namely prescribed electrical work, as permitted under the Electricity Act 1992 and the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010
(This includes to have ensured its ‘trainee’ employees held the relevant Trainee Limited Certificate as required by the Electrical Workers Registration Board);
- Ensure that a supervisor (being a person deemed to be a supervisor by the Electricity Act 1992 and the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010) only allows employees undergoing apprenticeship training to do or assist in doing, work they are permitted to do in accordance with the Electricity Act 1992 and the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 201; and
- Ensure that the supervisor identifies the boundaries of a safe working area at the work site given its specific environmental factors of the work area and that this is communicated to the trainee.
An employee of the Defendant came into contact with live terminals while carrying out electrical work on a refrigeration unit in the roof space of a chiller room.
The employee was fatally electrocuted.
