The Underground Mines Emergency Protocol provides direction on managing a level 3 underground mines or tunnel emergency in New Zealand. This includes establishing the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders under the protocol and the lines of authority for decision-making and communication.
The protocol applies to all level 3 underground mine emergencies in New Zealand including emergencies that occur in construction tunnels covered by mining regulations.
