A gas installation is defined as the piping, fittings and appliances downstream of the point of supply. This, may be from a distribution system or a cylinder supply.
The definition of point of supply is used in:
- The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006(external link), where it is applied to the meaning of gasfitting.
- The Gas Act(external link) definition of gas distribution system which in turn defines a gas installation.
- The Regulations(external link) in relation to requirements for odorisation, gas specification and gas pressure.
Design and construction
Gas installations must be constructed so they are safe when used for their intended purpose.
Gas installation and certain other gasfitting work must be certified by a certifying gasfitter or other person authorised under the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006.
The Regulations place obligations on those responsible for connecting a gas installation to a gas supply.
