Workers may be exposed to harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, particularly while working outdoors. This exposure may increase the chance of developing serious health conditions, such as skin cancer
Where there is a risk to health and safety from sun exposure during work, a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must ensure that this risk is managed appropriately.
The risk of sun exposure cannot be fully eliminated. Therefore, it must be minimised, so far as is reasonably practicable, by establishing effective control measures.
We have produced guidance for both PCBUs and workers.
Protecting workers from solar UV radiation - For PCBUs
This quick guide describes how to identify and assess the health risk from solar UV radiation, and how to effectively manage and monitor this risk.
Keeping safe in the sun - for workers
This guidance provides information on keeping safe from the sun’s harmful rays. It should be read with the above quick guide.
