It was great to talk with the NZ mining community at the New Zealand Minerals Forum in Queenstown on 28-29 May.
This two-day conference and exhibition about mining in New Zealand attracts high-level attendance from mining companies, investors and companies, and aims to bring the industry together under one roof to provide educational opportunities and discuss industry developments.
Dave Bellett, our Deputy Chief Inspector Extractives, was part of a panel discussion at the event about mine management and what a good mine manager does. This included opportunity for open questions from the floor.
We also had a stand at the event, where our Extractives team talked with conference attendees, the majority of whom were miners, on subjects ranging from worker health and wellness to hydraulic safety and legislation-related issues.
Feedback from those who attended indicates that the forum was a big success and it's likely that this will now be the most significant event on the extractives calendar.
Part of the event was the Minerals Sector Awards, an opportunity to celebrate excellence in the minerals and mining sector. One of the awards was the Health and Safety Initiative Award, which was won by Road Metals for their dedicated health and safety manager, full involvement of the leadership, and improved health and safety performance.
