Outcome of investigation:
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) conducted the investigation to determine the point of origin. The burn patterns indicated that the fire started within the unit. It appears that there was a malfunction of the dryer although the actual cause was undetermined. The dryer was approximately 15 years old and was used frequently.
Due to the age and inconclusive evidence, WorkSafe Energy Safety did not investigate further.
