The tenant stated that their son appeared to receive the electric shock when his finger came into contact with the socket outlet faceplate.

WorkSafe Energy Safety made inquiries with the landlord and the electrical contractor to determine more information.

The old outlet socket was replaced and couriered to WorkSafe to be examined. The socket outlet was visually examined, tested using a Multifunction Tester Megger MF71835 at 1,000 Volts for insulation breakdown and for any continuity between the live contacts and the mounting bolts, which tested ok.

From our examination, a fault or cause associated with the socket outlet for an electric shock incident could not be established.

The cause was not conclusively determined.
