About the draft guidelines

The new guidelines aim to describe, in plain language, how to manage the risks from natural hazards by:

  • defining what a natural hazard is and providing examples of them
  • providing information about how to identify natural hazards
  • providing information about how to assess the risks from natural hazards
  • providing information and examples of how to manage risks from natural hazards
  • providing information about technical advisers and when an operator may need to use one.

The consultation opened on Tuesday 25 June 2024 and closed on Friday 19 July 2024.

The Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) allows New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, or anyone in New Zealand, to request official information from the government – including copies of submissions.

We will let you know if we receive an OIA request for a copy of your submission. The content of your submission may be made available to the public, however you can indicate on the response form whether you would prefer your details to be kept confidential.

We will manage any personal information you supply in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.
