This new draft Electrical Code of Practice for Managing Electrical Risks when Working with Electrically Conductive Foil Thermal Insulation complements new requirements for residential tenancies to be insulated and have smoke alarms, which will be contained in residential tenancy legislation. These changes, which are intended to improve the quality of residential rental properties, have the potential to affect the overall electrical safety risk profile when installing conductive foil thermal insulation, or when working wherever conductive insulation is already fitted.
Regulations detailing new insulation and smoke alarm requirements to implement changes to the Residential Tenancies Act were recently announced by the New Zealand Government.
The new draft Electrical Code of Practice sets out good practice which will enable property owners and industry to manage electrical safety risks associated with installing conductive foil thermal insulation in new electrical installations, and with working in the presence of conductive foil thermal insulation in existing electrical installations.
